Craving something sweet at the end of the day?! This traditional German treat is called Rumkugeln, which translates to Rum balls. This divine chocolate treat with a hint of rum aroma is delicious anytime not just around Christmas time.
100 g / 3.5 oz unsalted butter (room temperature)
2 tablespoons of cacao powder, sieved
2 tablespoons Arrack or Rum
200 g / 7 oz good chocolate
200 g / 7 oz peeled hazelnuts
powdered sugar and chocolate sprinkles
-Whip butter and add the sieved cacao powder arrack or rum little at a time while mixing.
-Melt the chopped chocolate in a double boiler
-Let the melted chocolate cool a bit
-Then add it to the butter with the peeled and finely ground hazelnuts (grind them in a blender or coffee mill)
-Add some sieved powdered sugar to the mixture while kneading the dough
-Keep adding powdered sugar little at a time until the mixture absorbed it well and begins to firm up.
-Form small balls and roll them in the chocolate sprinkles.
-Let the balls air dry then refrigerate in an airtight container.
